Secretary

Location: St. Michael Parish, Charlestown

St. Michael Parish, Charlestown, is looking for a part-time Secretary who will perform a wide range of clerical functions for the parish office. This position will be the main point of contact for those contacting the parish via phone, email, mail or in-person. This person will also work to address the needs and concerns of those at the parish including providing access to the building when needed. Additionally, this role will provide assistance with preparing material for weekend liturgies, operating/maintaining office equipment, supporting other parish staff members, and other administrative duties as required.

  • Good organization and planning skills
  • Ability to organize and manage workload to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Maintain hospitable, kind, responsive attitude and environment
  • Self-motivated/ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to organize and manage workload to meet deadlines
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Willingness to foster the Church’s mission

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Highschool education or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years previous experience in an office setting preferred.
  • Must be able to understand and to comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct
  • Must be able to successfully complete the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Child Safety Training
  • Background screening required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must be comfortable working on the computer and using various software packages, such as ACS, the Microsoft Office Suite and Google products.
  • Must be comfortable learning to use office equipment, such as copier, folding machine, postage machine, video screens etc.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be available to work when the parish office is open
  • Must be able to read and edit spreadsheets, email and other related tools related to the role
  • Must be able to process and maintain large volumes of documentation
  • Must be able to communicate extensively and effectively with staff and vendors via telephone/TDD, one-on-one conversations, face-to-face and written correspondence
  • Must be able to sit for extensive periods of time and navigate through the office
  • Requires extensive use of keyboards and other administrative equipment
  • Must be able to function within a moderate noise level office environment
