Our Mission

Jesus, as He ascended into heaven—to the Father—no doubt chose His words very carefully.  He gave His disciples, and gives to us, marching orders of sorts:  The Great Commission:

“All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”
(Matthew 28:18-20)

Keeping the Great Commission in mind, Secretariat staff are guided with questions like:

- How prominent is the name of Jesus as we go about our daily tasks in support of parish ministry?
- What role does an invitation to discipleship play in our activities?
- Do all people within our parish territories know what baptism is, why it’s so important and that they’re invited to pursue it—along with subsequent sacraments?
- If not “teaching them all that I have commanded you,” what aspects of Church teaching are shared regularly in our ministries?
- How do we encourage those we serve to acknowledge the presence of Jesus in their lives, in His Church and especially in the Eucharist, fostering a Eucharistic spirituality as a lasting fruit of the National Revival and Eucharistic Congress?

Parishes are where our Catholic faith is lived out; but parishioners are also called to be leaven beyond that, into society—salt and light for the world.  With the Holy Spirit’s guidance and our Blessed Mother Mary’s intercession, the Secretariat for Evangelizing Catechesis helps focus the enthusiasm for ministry shown by women and men throughout southeastern and central Indiana, all by God’s grace and mercy.
