General Announcements 

Programs honoring Earth Day will take place in Columbus, Oldenburg and Saint Mary-of-the Woods

Three locations in central and southern Indiana reported their Earth Day celebrations and programs to The Criterion.

An Earth Day Festival will be held at the White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, 1 Sisters of Providence, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, in St. Mary-of-the-Woods, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on April 20.

The festival includes nature shows, kids’ activities, craft demonstrations, exhibits, tours of the facility’s organic gardens, alpaca and horse barns, as well as a bake sale.

Admission is free, though donations will be accepted. For more information, contact the White Violet Center at 812-535-2932, wvc@spsmw.org or White-Violet.org.

An Earth Day display will be presented in the courtyard at St. Bartholomew Parish, 1306 27th St., in Columbus, on April 20 following the 5 p.m. Mass, and on April 21 following the 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Masses. In the event of inclement weather, the display will be moved to the parish hall.

St. Bartholomew Parish will also offer “Our Common Home: An Earth Day Concert” in the church at 6 p.m. on April 22. Sponsored by St. Bartholomew’s Music Ministry and Care for Our Common Home Ministry, the concert will feature the St. Bartholomew Adult and Children’s Choirs directed by Dr. Bogdan Minut, and the Fairlawn Presbyterian Chancel Choir directed by Dr. Mirabella Minut. The concert is free, though donations will be accepted.

A program called “E.A.R.T.H. (Energy Awareness for Rural Towns and Homes)” will take place at Oldenburg Franciscan Center, 22143 Main St., in Oldenburg, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on April 27.

Led by Franciscan Sister Claire Whalen, Peter Schubert and Kathryn Lisinicchia, the program looks at renewable energy solutions for houses and facilities in rural communities. Sister Claire and her team, Solarize Indiana Southeast, have facilitated 33 homeowners and two businesses to install solar panels in predominantly small rural communities in four neighboring counties.

Learn the basics of evangelization at special workshop on April 27 in Nashville

The archdiocesan Office of Evangelization will offer an Evangelization 101 Workshop at St. Agnes Parish, 1008 McClary Road, in Nashville, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on April 27.

Featuring guest speaker Dominican Father Simon Felix Michalski, parochial vicar at St. Paul Catholic Center in Bloomington, the workshop is open to all those interested in learning more about evangelization: parishioners, parish leaders, ministry leaders and members of existing parish evangelization teams.

The program will provide core concepts of how to evangelize, including the basics on how to pray, how to share personal faith stories, and how to form evangelization teams and small discipleship groups which help parishes grow in faith. The day will include developing best practices, action steps and the framework to begin goal setting.

The event costs $20. Attendees may self-pay or contact their parish to see if it will assume the cost. Registration is required by April 22.
